Short Cut to Style
Last week, I was sitting in my living room next to my huge windows on a gloriously sunny day. I had picturesque plans for the afternoon. I was ready to take on the world. Unfortunately, those plans came to a screeching halt all too quickly. It is basically summer, and I was wearing jeans. I would soon start to melt.
I begrudgingly went to my closet to see what my options for shorts were and realized that I, like many of you, am stuck in what can only be described as shorts purgatory. My options were to wear my Daisy Duke-inspired shorts (I now wonder, “Were those ever appropriate?”), to throw on a pair with paint stains or to stick to my jeans and be miserable in this Texas heat.
I set out on a mission to find the perfect pair with 3 thoughts in mind.
#1 COMFORT IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
My favorite new find was a pair of long stretchy shorts that look extremely tailored. I finished the look with a light weight top and added a sparkly statement necklace.

#2 COLOR ELEVATES ANY LOOK.
Another top find of mine were bright and patterned shorts from J.Crew. Add a graphic tee to keep it cheerful, a striped button-up for a polished look, or a silky blouse for a chic feel.

#3 PICK A PAIR FOR YOUR SHAPE.
I’d venture to say that a lot of shopping frustration stems from not understanding your body type. To find which shorts works for your shape, try on many pairs! I have an hourglass shape, so I wanted to try my luck with a pair of high waisted shorts that would accentuate that shape. I added a summery crop-top and wedges and walked out feeling feisty.

I’m pleased to report back that there are so many stores right now in Austin that have exactly what I was looking for.
And when you venture out on your shopping trip, don't forget the biggest rule: when you find that pair that makes you look and feel fantastic, buy them!
