Got a simple sundress? Here are 5 ways to style it into chic + casual outfits.
FIRST, CHOOSE YOUR SUNDRESS.
Some of these styling tricks will work with lots of different cuts of sundress.
If you want to try them all though, you’ll need a sundress that’s sleeveless, almost totally follows the line of your body, and is above the knee.

HOW TO STYLE THE SUNDRESS
WITH A JEAN JACKET
If your dress hits at or just above the knee, try a shorter denim jacket to balance the length. For a mini dress, try an oversized boyfriend jacket. If your sundress is light, go with a light jacket to mimic the color. Same goes for a dark jacket and a dark dress. Finish with a simple sneaker, oversized hoops, and a watch or bangles.

WITH AN OVERSIZED SWEATER
This is where it’s important that the dress is fitted. For the sweater to flow easily over the dress, the dress can’t have too much material that causes bunching or crowds the sweater. Choose the sweater to pair based on the length and fit of the dress. The tighter and shorter that the dress is, the more relaxed you should go on the sweater. You don’t want the sweater to come down too long (it shouldn’t cover the whole dress), but fitted pieces go with flowy. The more fitted that the dress is, the more flowy the the sweater can be.

WITH STATEMENT ACCESSORIES
A lot of the time in Texas, you won’t need a jacket or sweater. That’s why accessories are so important. They show you're detail oriented and being thoughtful about layering, when another piece like a sweater isn't there to do the job. For this, pull out all the stops. Try a head piece like a hat or headband. Then, add statement earrings or a statement necklace. Finish with a big cocktail ring or a bold coral lipstick.

WITH A GRAPHIC TEE
In quarantine, your t-shirt collection may have gone from shrimpy to quite robust. Now is the time to dig out your favorite graphic tee and tie it up. This will do a couple things. First, the graphic tee adds a talking point to your look. “Oh! I love your outfit!” becomes something you’ll definitely hear more often. When you tie it up, it also accentuates your waist, which will celebrate your natural shape. Finally, it’ll turn your dress into skirt — a total win when one piece can do double duty.

WITH A SHACKET
A shacket is a shirt. A shacket is a jacket. It does both. The shacket is a great piece for all seasons, but the key to finding the perfect spring/summer shacket is finding the right weight. Cotton or linen are great for this time of year because they’re breathable. For a more casual look, you can unbutton the shacket and throw it over the dress. For a dressy casual look, tying it up at your waist will make it slightly more tailored and more feminine. Neither styling technique is better than the other, but if you do tie it up, finish the look by playing into the femininity of the tie. A wedge or stacked heel will add height and elongate the look.
