2 Simple Questions to Break Down Your Best Colors

Whenever I work with a new client, the first step we take together is determining their best colors.

This is the foundation of my process.

Once you pinpoint your best colors, you can build a wardrobe that highlights your skin, eyes, and hair in the most flattering and enhancing ways. You can more easily style clothing in your closet. You can use your colors to develop your distinct style.

There are lots of online resources to help you find your color palette, but they often overcomplicate the subject or confine your palette to only a few colors.

The type of color that looks good will vary from person to person, but everyone can wear every color.

Royal purple may look stunning on one woman, while lilac, lavender, or plum will look good on another. The same goes for any color.

The most accurate way to determine your color palette is to have an in-person color analysis, but if you want a little direction in the meantime, today is your day.

Here’s how to break down your best colors using the most important tool you have in your styling tool box: intuition.

First, watch the video below to get the break down on this topic or check it out on KXAN.com.

Next, let’s determine your colors.

Question One: Which neutral colors do you love?

A. BLACK, CHARCOAL, ICE PINK, WHITE

B. COGNAC, CARAMEL, PEACH NUDE, BLUSH

If you choose A, from the neutrals above, you are likely cooly complected.

You’ll fall into one of the two cool palettes, winter or summer, which are directly below.

If you choose B, you are likely warmly complected. Skip the two palettes below, and head to the warm palettes (autumn and spring).

From your two palettes (either the warm ones or the cool), ask yourself…

Question Two: Which palette do you naturally gravitate towards?

COOL PALETTES

WINTER (dark, clear, cool)

The colors below: royal purple, cobalt blue, emerald, marigold, hot pink, fuchsia

Note: The colors in each palette are a sample of the palette, not the complete palette.

SUMMER (light, soft, cool)

The colors below: lavender, powder blue, sea foam, lemon meringue, raspberry, taupe

WARM PALETTES

AUTUMN (dark, warm, soft)

The colors below: eggplant, navy, olive, chartreuse, mustard, burnt sienna

SPRING (warm, clear, light)

the colors below: lilac, turquoise, aqua, lemon, spring green, coral

And voilà! You’re on track to mastering your best colors. Want to learn more? Schedule a call with me to make sure you’ve found the correct forever palette.

A little extra something…

Below, I’ve styled a blue hue from each palette to give you some inspiration of how you can actually use your colors in future outfits.

Side note: My palette is spring, so you can see how those colors brighten and clarify my skin tone more than the others.
