We're talking jumpsuits.
Being stylish doesn’t always mean wearing the current trends. The attitude you embody, the confidence you project, and the vibe you create are what collectively give you an individual sense of style. That being said, when a trend emerges that is as a chic as it is playful, it can’t be ignored. The jumpsuit is a noteworthy trend.
Don’t confuse the jumpsuit with its cousins, the romper and the playsuit. To clarify, a playsuit is two items: a matching blouse and pair of shorts. A romper is a single garment that combines the top and the shorts.
A jumpsuit is a single garment incorporating both pants and a top.
Jumpsuits are a great opportunity to blend the ease of getting ready with a high fashion look. They also show your figure without being too restricting or uncomfortable. They can work for many different occasions: a wedding, girl’s night, or a morning stroll to the farmer’s market.
I wore a jumpsuit for the first time to my husband’s Christmas party last December and felt as svelte as I did flirtacious. It took a little while for me to convince myself that I could pull it off, though. What it came down to was this: finding the right shape for my body and a tall glass of confidence. And after I got over all of the mental stumbling blocks, I went to the party and I rocked that jumpsuit! If you’re currently saying to yourself that you could never pull off a jumpsuit, you’re wrong!
THE ONE THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS WHICH SUIT WORKS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE.
So let’s talk about shapes – what type of jumpsuit works best for you? There is one key factor to determine your body type: Do you have a defined or not-defined waist? If you do have a defined waist, you are an hourglass or pear. Try on jumpsuits that come in at the waist in order to accentuate your most slender silhouette. If your waist is not defined, you may be more of an apple, an inverted triangle, or a square. In this case, look for a jumpsuit with a dropped waist. This will fit you more comfortably and better define your figure.
You can also use the shape to play up the vibe of the event. If you decide on a dropped waist jumpsuit to wear to a picnic, simply add a sporty heel and a simple bag for a classic look. For date night, accentuate your curves with a tailored jumpsuit and sparkly jewels. Take a jumpsuit from day to night by switching from sandal to stiletto and from studs to statement earrings.
