A Simple Exercise On The Eve Of A New Decade
I woke up in the middle of the night on Sunday thinking about what I wanted to write about today. Tomorrow is a new chapter, and even if you’re not a New Year’s person (I’m totally not), going into a fresh decade can easily make you think about how you want this one to be different and similar to the last.
Your biggest changes to come may not be in the form of a resolution. Mine won’t. The word “resolution” honestly brings up feeling of failure for me. Resolutions tend to last a few months, which inevitably leaves me feeling like I’m no different from when I started, which is why I’ve ditched them all together.
Instead, my hope for myself and for you in this next decade would be to be as loving towards yourself and honest about your body as possible.
And honestly, your body is beautiful. Your body is powerful. And it is exactly the way it should be.
We all get dressed the same way every morning, facing our curves, wrinkles, bumps, and scars. In pulling on your pants, you have to meet your thighs. In throwing on your shirt, you have to feel your shoulders. Your body is there to greet you and take you through the day, and no matter what grievances you hold with it, there is absolutely nothing wrong with any part of you.
Each part of your body is there, perfectly positioned in the place that it is, because it should be. Each part is doing it’s job to help you be you.
Greer Image Consulting is about teaching women to fit fashion to their body + style, not the other way around, because you are and always will be the beautiful and powerful canvas on which the right clothes + style fit perfectly.
So on the eve of a new decade, I have one simple exercise for you to complete. You don’t have to do it today, because once you hear it, you’ll know you need to set a little bit of time aside to do it. It’s a simple exercise, but it’s a big one. But I know you can handle it, because you are the boss of your life, your closet, and your style. You’re in the driver’s seat and you’re forever the leading lady in your story.
I want you to try on every single piece of clothing in your closet — every last t-shirt, every last maxi skirt.
If it isn’t the right fit for your body + style right now, it’s time to let it go. No baggage in 2020. This new decade is going to be a celebration of you, which means each piece in your wardrobe has to align with your power + beauty.
It’s time to get in touch with what you want and where you want to be.
And once you complete this exercise, I would love to hear from you. How much did you get rid of? What can you see now that you’re totally going to use going forward? How does it feel to have a closet you’ve taken charge of?
Lots of love and joy in 2020,
Raquel
And P.S. if you need any help making outfits from all the pieces you love, I would love to help. You deserve to look as beautiful and powerful as I know you are every single day of the week.
