How to Create the Perfect Layered Outfit for Outdoor, Socially Distanced Hangouts This Winter
We all want to be safe this season. The easiest way for us to do that is to stay home.
Sometimes it’s tough to go long periods without seeing the people you love. Which is why socially distanced outdoor hangouts are key.
With the weather quickly dropping, feeling comfortable outside requires the right gear and styling techniques.
So this week I’m sharing how to create fun and functional layered looks.
Follow the steps below to create your coziest outfit of the season, shop the pieces along the way and watch the video from Studio 512 to hear more.
After you’re finished, I would love to hear from you! Leave me a comment below and share your thoughts.
Lots of love and joy!

step one: Add a formfitting tank top with stretch, so it fits seamlessly under the next layer.

step two: Add a light-weight turtleneck that easily layers under a sweater. 100% cotton or one with stretch is a good fit.

step three: Add a pair of tights on bottom as the base layer.

step four: Add a skirt or jeans depending on how warm you need your look to be. Go with jeans if you need more warmth or a skirt if you tend to run hot.

step five: Add a light-weight sweatshirt or fine-knit sweater that can be layered under another sweater, vest or jacket.

step six: Add your second sweatshirt or sweater. This may seem like a lot, but trust me! If you tend to get cold, like me, it’s totally worth it. For this step, you can add a slightly heavier sweatshirt or sweater than the last one.

step seven: Add your jacket or vest over the top. Just like in step four, you’ll choose what to wear based on how much warmth you need. To add more warmth, go with a jacket. For a slightly lighter look, go with a vest.

step eight: Socks! These are, of course, crucial. Choose a warm pair that’ll fill out the boots you’re about to throw on over them.

step nine: Add short boots. Since we rarely deal with snow in Austin, I recommend short boots over tall ones, so the boot doesn’t add too much bulk to the look. Short boots can still give you warmth without boxing out the bottom of your outfit.

step ten: Add gloves. When you’re sitting for a long period of time, gloves are key. You can choose a fleece-lined if you want to turn up the heat or just a simple pair to give you a little extra coverage.

step eleven: Add a hat. My winter hats vary from my wool Stetson cowboy hat to my neon Carhatt beanie. As long as you choose one that fits your style, head and keeps you warm, you can’t go wrong with this last step.
